Good evening to all our parents. We hope that you are all keeping well. Below is a breakdown of some upcoming events/activities taking place in the school, over the coming days/weeks. Such activities involve PT meetings, study skills seminars, and dates for Christmas exams, for specific year groups.
1. Early finish on Tuesday 14th November: We will have an early finish on Tuesday (2:20pm) to facilitate our staff meeting.
2. October Assessment Reports: The October Assessments for 3rd & 6th years will be issued to parents on Tuesday 14th November .
3. 3rd Year study Skills seminar takes place next Friday November 17th . This study skills seminar is delivered by an outside company, Brainbox. Many of our students report to us that they find the act of studying very challenging and that “they don’t know how to study”. This is an excellent workshop, the content of which was delivered to us as teachers, on our return last August. Parents are asked to contribute €10 per student, to the cost of the seminar. Payment can be made through the school app from Monday.
4. 2nd Year Study Skills seminar takes place on Thursday November 23rd . This study skills seminar is delivered by an outside company, Brainbox. Many of our students report to us that they find the act of studying very challenging and that “they don’t know how to study”. Payment can be made through the school app from Monday.
5. PT meetings will take place on Thursday November 30th (5th year) and Tuesday December 5th (1st year). Both PT meetings will be in person.
6. Christmas Exam dates: To ensure that all parents are aware of what is happening during the Christmas exams, the following synopsis may help. More specific information, including year group exam timetables will be forwarded to parents next week, once timetables have been finalised:
1st Year Christmas Exams:
- · Some exams will be completed during double classes on the week prior to Monday 11th December
- · Thursday & Friday 14th & 15th of December and Monday 18th December.
- · Students will finish daily at 12:45pm and are free to go home at that time.
- · Two exams per day
- · Holidays at 1pm on Monday 18th December.
- · No exam in option subjects
2nd Year Christmas Exams
- · Some exams will be completed during double classes on the week prior to Monday 18th December
- · Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 19th to 21st of December
- · Students will finish daily at 12:45pm and are free to go home at that time.
- · Two exams per day
- · Holidays at 12:45pm on Thursday 21st December.
1st & 2nd Year Torch Students Christmas Exams
- · Thursday & Friday 14th & 15th of December and Monday 18th December.
- · Students will finish daily at 12:45pm and are free to go home at that time.
- · Holidays at 1pm on Monday 18th December for both 1st & 2nd year Torch students
Transition Years
- · Finish on Christmas Holidays on Friday 15th Of December.
- · TY’s do not complete Christmas Exams.
5th Year Christmas Exams
- · Tuesday to Friday 19th to 22nd December.
- · Students will finish daily at 12:45pm and are free to go home at that time.
- · Two exams per day
- · Holidays at 10:30am on Friday 22nd December
LCA 1 & 2
- · Wednesday & Thursday 13th & 14th of December
- · Students will finish daily at 11:50pm and are free to go home at that time.
- · Two exams per day
- · Holidays at 11:50pm on Thursday 14th December
3rd & 6th Years
- · As 3rd & 6th year students will not complete Christmas exams, there will be supervised study available to them, in school, from Tuesday December 19th to Thursday December 21st
- · Two slots of study per day
- · Slot 1-8:45-10:45
- · Slot 2-11:10-12:45
- · Attendance at this study is not compulsory, but is advised.
- · 3rd & 6th years will have their official Christmas holidays on Thursday 21st December at 12:45pm.
Afterschool Study
- · Afterschool Study will continue as normal up to Tuesday 19th December
- · On Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 19th to 21st December, afterschool study will take from 13:40pm to 4pm
- · No afterschool study on Friday 22nd December
For 3rd & 6th year students, we are currently seeking expressions of interest from students who would like to attend study here in the school, over the Christmas holidays, for 5 days. This is a facility that we have always run, however, since covid and with flood renovations last year, we weren’t in a position to offer this service. This year, we plan to do so.
