All students are afforded the opportunity to experience and participate in basketball from 1st year. The sport has rapidly increased in popularity over the past decade and training sessions reach maximum capacity each year.
1st year, 2nd year, U16 and U19 are the categories at present that we participate in.
In 2014, both our U16 and U19C teams won the All Ireland schools cup and in 2016 we reached the All Ireland quarter final and semi-final respectively for the U16 and U19’s.
We are affiliated with Basketball Ireland who provides refereeing and coaching courses across the country.
These teams are managed and coached by Mr P. Whelan and Ms. E. Behan. Both coaches offer their time on a voluntary and goodwill basis so as to provide a positive and enjoyable experience but to also provide students with the opportunity to progress as skilled and disciplined basketball players as they move through the school. Current and past pupils often give a helping hand as well throughout the season.
